So very excited to be heading back to Toronto in May for a residency at The Cameron House! I’ll be playing at 6pm every Wednesday (7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th) followed by Jen Lane at 7pm. It’s Jen’s first tour since having a year off to recover from an ankle surgery. She’s just as excited as I am, if not even more so, to be performing again. I’ve been sneaking a listen to some of her new songs and I’ll tell you something, that girl can write! We’ll both be sharing new songs and some of our favourite covers on tour. Check the Tour Dates tab for all the dates. Special thanks to the Saskatchewan Arts Board for their support of the May Residency. We’re pretty lucky to get the support that we do in Saskatchewan. Lastly I just want to congratulate my good friend Derek Bachman on his new job. Derek will be leading us into the future as the new Executive Director of SaskMusic. 2014 is off to a pretty good start. See you at a show!
I am in Revelstoke at the Last Drop for our 4th show of this tour with Young Benjamins. Thanks to the Artery (Edmonton) and the Elk & Oarsman (Banff), for taking such good care of us this week. Extra thanks to all the people who have come out to support us so far and those that we will see before we are done! I also would like to thank Creative Saskatchewan for their commitment of support for our tour. It definitely helps us to reach our goals in the music industry and we are very fortunate to have this kind of support in Saskatchewan. I’ve been playing some of my new songs on this tour and I’m really excited by how well they are going over. I can’t wait to make a new album. : ) Next up, Jen Lane and I will be heading back to Ontario/Quebec for a residency at the Cameron House in Toronto every Wednesday in May. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road with Jen and we are excited to show you some of the songs that we have been working on together. Jen has also been writing for her next album, and all I can say is that she is a truly gifted songwriter. You’ll see too when her album comes out in 2015. Back to the tour info, we will be at one of my favorite places, Fernando’s in Kelowna, this Saturday night. See you at a show! john
I’ve been spending a lot of time writing and rehearsing lately. Feeling very grateful to get to work on my music right now. I’m excited to get back into the studio and start recording. I’m hoping to be laying down some tracks come April! Before that, in February I’ll be attending the Folk Alliance International Conference and Festival with my good friend Geoff Smith (Gunner and Smith). I’ll get to play some shows with Geoff as well as a few of my own showcases thanks to SaskMusic. In March I’ll be hitting the road with Young Benjamins on a short tour of Western Canada. We had so much fun on the road last October that we decided to do it again. Hope to see you at a show in the future and thanks in advance for all the support.
Thanks to SaskMusic and the Government of Saskatchewan for supporting my fall Canadian tour! I made it across the country 3.5 times in support of Always With You. I had a great time in October with the Young Benjamins, and an even more amazing time in Ontario/Quebec on my own! The Cameron House in Toronto is one of the best music venues in Canada and I’m so happy to get the opportunity to play a residency there, and I can’t wait to get back there in 2014. I also want to thank the Saskatchewan Arts Board for their continued support of my music with an Independent Artist grant to allow me to take a break from the road this winter and get to work writing for a new album. I’m hoping to be able to get back in the studio sometime before next summer. I’ve been writing a lot in the last month and I’m really excited about the new material. I’m gonna be sneaking out to a few open stages over the holidays to try out some of the songs. Come out to Amigo’s on Saturday December 14th for the 4th Annual Ukrainian Jedi Xmas show with the Smokekiller band (featuring Josh Palmer, Enver Hampton, Jen Lane, and Kyle Krysa) and starting off the night in true Jedi fashion will be Saskatoon’s own The Karpinka Brothers! Hope to see you over the holidays!
Wow! What an amazing run of shows across Western Canada. Big thanks to all the promoters and venues that showed us such incredible hospitality along the way. Extra big thanks to all the wonderful fans and friends that showed up every night and gave their support to our tour. Without you there is no show, and we thank you very much for being a part of the story. I would also like to thank the people who helped me with publicity in the last year, Jen Fritz at Fritz Media, Michael Dawson, and Scott Pilling. You guys helped me to develop my story and allowed me to create an awareness of my music and my mom’s life on a national level. I am forever grateful. Huge props to Young Benjamins for coming with me on this recent tour, I hope you had as much fun as I did! I also want to thank all the bands that shared the stage with me on this last year of touring, Jen Lane, Castle River, The Elwins, Jeff Stuart and the Hearts, Will Hunter, Julie and the Damnbreakers, Laura Artus, Anchors North, and Bikini Island Radio, and Zachary Lucky. I’m on a short break before I head out to Ontario and Quebec in November. Take a look at the tour schedule and send some friends out to the shows! See you soon! John
Here it is September again. Time sure flies by when you are busy doing other things! Getting ready for another round of touring this beautiful country of ours. Tour starts Oct 8th at the Ironwood in Calgary, which is one of my favorite places to play. I’ll be sharing the stage with Saskatoon’s Young Benjamins for a handful of shows and we’ll have a few guests and some local support here and there! Check out the Tour Dates link for all the details. I’ve been working on some new tunes generated by the inspiration provided by this lifestyle. I had a great tour in May with Castle River, so much so that I wish I could keep them forever! But, they are destined for their own greatness and must chase that dream. They’ll be at Breakout West and CMJ this year. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to spend time with them making awesome music. Check them out if you get a chance. I’ll be hitting the studio with them to capture the magic that we created on a new song that I wrote. If you were at the Gateway Festival then you probably heard us play it. More on that to come. What an amazing summer we had as well. All the wonderful festivals and shows that we got to play and bands that we got to share the stage with. So many new friends! Well, time to go do a little house cleaning and organizing. You sure learn quickly how much stuff you have and how much stuff you don’t need when you’re living out of a suitcase. Talk soon!
Hey kids! I’ve added a couple of shows to the fall tour. Most notably a Grey Cup Weekend party at TCU Place in Saskatoon with THE SHEEPDOGS!! So excited to share the stage with the guys. Been a long time since we’ve done that. Heading out to Music On The Mountain in Fort. St. James, BC this weekend. Jen and I play on Friday night at 7pm and Saturday at Noon. After that we’ll be catching a ferry to Salt Spring for a house concert and some lake swimming. Been a great summer so far, hope you all enjoy the rest of it!
